Kingfisher Bowls Club
About us
Our History
In 1989, bowlers from the Royal Arsenal Sports and Recreational Association (RASRA) were facing the loss of their green. To stay together as a club, 26 members decided to leave and form a new one, joining a consortium at Danson Park. Dennis Hickin and Arthur Snipp from RASRA worked with the other clubs in the consortium to manage two greens and a small clubhouse. Snipp became the first treasurer and was in charge of paying the greenkeeper.
To start raising money, members sold items at boot sales.
They named the new organization the Kingfisher Bowls Club after a suggestion and badge design submitted by a member named Alf Reilly. The club also designed its own uniform. Other members donated crockery and cutlery to equip the new clubhouse. By the 1991 season, the club had recruited enough new members and had a full schedule of matches.
Despite the challenges of sharing the greens and a small clubhouse, the club managed to thrive. In 1999, a Lottery grant allowed them to double the size of the clubhouse, making it more comfortable for everyone. We are now members of Danson Park Consortium.
Our Program
Kingfisher Bowls Club is a welcoming mixed club made up of both couples and singles. On Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4pm, we host roll-ups (social bowling), internal competitions, and coaching sessions for anyone interested. We engage in friendly matches with local clubs and those further away, primarily on weekends, but occasionally during the week as well. Our members also participate in local borough and Kent County competitions, with our men competing in the North West Kent Men's League. In addition to our commitment to bowls, we enjoy a vibrant social scene with organized theater trips, coach excursions, holidays, and fun evenings at the club. For more information, please contact:-
